If there's a need to update vehicle ownership due to a change or an initial input error, Shop Controller makes it easy to re-associate a vehicle with a different customer.
Changing the associated customer for a vehicle in Shop Controller is a straightforward process. This might be necessary when the ownership of the vehicle changes or if there was an error during the initial data entry. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to perform this update.
Accessing Vehicle Records
Begin by clicking on the 'Vehicles' tab on the left side menu of the Shop Controller application. This will bring up a list of all vehicle records within the system.
Selecting the Vehicle
Find the vehicle that needs to be updated. You can either type in the vehicle details in the search bar or scroll through the list until you find the vehicle, such as the "2011 Honda Civic."
Updating Ownership
Once the vehicle is selected, the current owner's name will be displayed on the left panel. To change this:
- Click on the ellipsis (three dots) menu for additional options.
- Press the link icon, which will bring up a list of all customers in the app.
Choosing the Correct Customer
In the new window, you can locate the new owner by scrolling or using the search function. Click on the new customer's name to select them.
Confirming the Change
Click 'OK' to assign the vehicle to the selected customer. Note that this action will transfer all associated financial records to the new customer. If you need to retain the financial history under the original owner, it may be better to create a duplicate vehicle record.
Following these steps will ensure that the vehicle's ownership details are updated correctly in your Shop Controller database.
